Duchess of Sussex Finds New Podcast Partner

Meghan Markle is back in the podcast game with spotifyLemonada Media, a podcasting network, collaborated with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. This comes after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Studios’ exclusive podcast organization with Spotify expires in the middle of 2023. Under the terms of the deal, the couple only created one show, the Markle-hosted interview serial “The Archetypal.”

As to the contract, Lemonada will get started releasing Markle’s “Archetypes” audio series’ first season on all platforms in the spring of 2024. The Duchess of Sussex is going to serve as the host of a brand-new, yet-untitled original podcast series that the company is also developing.

“I am honored to be a part of the Lemonada family and am happy to be joining the brilliant team to continue my passion for podcasting,” Markle said in a statement. “We are pleased to be able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thoughtful and highly entertaining podcasts as we re-release ‘The Archetypes,’ so that more people can now have access to it, and we are working hard to launch a dynamic new podcast. I can’t wait to share it soon, and I am thrilled to be joining the Lemonada family.

For the first time, “Archetypes,” in which Markle explores the labels that aim to prevent women from achieving their full potential, will be accessible on all podcast platforms through Spotify. For the series, Lemonada is in charge of promotion and ad sales. With an average of almost two million listeners per episode, “Archetypes” has gained over 10 million downloads and listens to date. It also launched as Spotify’s top podcast in 47 countries globally.

The CEO and co-founder of Lemonada, Jessica Cordova Kramer, said, “We are beyond thrilled that Meghan has trusted us to help equalize access to ‘Archetypes,’ and that so many more people around the world will have access to the series soon. We are excited to collaborate with Meghan on a new series that supports her commitment to making art that matters because of her unmatched talent as a host, creator, and conversationalist.

“Archetypes” is the newest podcast to join Lemonada’s roster of shows, which also includes “Wiser Than Me With Julia Louis-Dreyfus,” which Apple named the 2023 show of the year; Jennette McCurdy’s “Hard Feelings”; “Funny Cuz It’s True With Elyse Myers”; Gracie award winners “Last Day” and “Believe Her”; “Choice Words With Samantha Bee”; “In the Bubble With Andy Slavitt”; “Add to Cart With Kulap Vilaysack and SuChin Pak”; and reality show “Being Trans.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle established Archewell Productions in 2020 with the goal of creating content that “informs, elevates, and inspires.” The company has a deal with Netflix in addition to being represented by WME.

According to sources, Harry and Meghan intended to find a new home for their audio projects and get away from Spotify’s exclusive distribution model. Three years into its approximately $20 million deal with Archewell, Spotify had anticipated more content to come out of the deal.

Bill Simmons, the creator of The Ringer, which Spotify acquired in 2020, stated on his self-titled show that Spotify ought to have started a program with Harry and Meghan dubbed “The Fucking Grifters” in response to the news that the company’s agreement with Archewell was ending. “I need to inform Harry about the Zoom I had with him one night while I’m intoxicated so I can try to help him with a podcast concept. One of my greatest stories, in Simmons’ opinion.
